Frequently asked questions
Fees, Medicare rebates and insurance
What rebates am I eligible for?
If you are using a Mental Health Treatment Plan or referral from your treating doctor, you are eligible for up to 10 Medicare rebates per year of $96.65 each session.
Your referring GP will need to assess your progress after the 6th session in order to access the remaining 4 sessions.
You may also be eligible for rebates under your private health insurance. You are unable to claim both the Medicare rebate and private health insurance rebate at the same time.
Do you bulk bill?
Papillon Psychology is not a bulk billing service. There is an out-of-pocket fee for all appointments.
Is there a cancellation fee?
Clients must reschedule or cancel their appointment at least 2 business days before their appointment date. This allows time to offer your appointment to someone else who is waiting to book.
If clients are unable to reschedule or cancel within the required time frame, or a client does not attend their scheduled appointment, a full fee will be charged.
Other questions
Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral to see a psychologist. Papillon Psychology accepts clients who are privately paid (self-referred), and clients using a Mental Health Treatment Plan referred from their treating GP or psychiatrist.
How long is an appointment?
Individual therapy appointments, including EMDR sessions, are 50 minutes.
What happens during the initial appointment?
Your first appointment with a psychologist is about helping them understand the reasons why you have sought therapy, gaining an understanding of your life from childhood to the present, and setting goals for therapy.
Depending on your presenting symptoms and goals and treatment modality, subsequent appointments focus on more specific information regarding the problems you are experiencing, and may be used for skill development, strategies and information that will help you to work through your main concerns and move closer towards your goals.
Do you write reports for court?
Currently, I do not have the capacity to write court reports.
What are my rights as a client of a psychologist?
All psychologists are legally required to be registered in Australia, which means your psychologist is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. As such, your psychologist is properly trained and ensures that you receive high quality, ethical service.
The Charter for Clients explains your rights as a client of a Psychologist.
